History of Alexander Stadium
Alexander Stadium is named after William Whiteway Alexander (1852 to 1933), who played a large role in the early development of Birchfield Harriers and athletics in Birmingham.
The original Alexander Stadium was built on the site of the Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium in 1927.
In 1976, the stadium then became the Perry Barr Greyhound Racing Track after the construction of the new Alexander Stadium in Perry Park.
The venue was officially opened in June 1978 and went onto become a host to regional, national and international athletics events.
In May 2020, the venue underwent a £72 million redevelopment, with the stadium completed in May 2022 ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
